It's the question on many hardcore and casual gamers minds, will there be a PS4 in the future? This topic has been circulated around the internet now for a few years (lets be honest, ever since the release of the PS3!), and it's certainly provoked a very mixed reaction to the idea in the gaming community.

The argument against there being a Sony PS4 console, at least in the near future, is that many casual gamers have only recently invested in the latest existing model, the Sony PS3. For many families it carried a hefty purchase price and for them to be aggrevated if a newer model was released shortly after them purchasing the console would be understandable. The newer Sony PS3 Slim Console is still selling at around £285 RRP ($420), a huge price to pay if the hardware is going to be outdated anytime soon.

On the flipside, many gamers are always looking for the 'next thing in the series', and I suspect the reason for PS4 rumors circulating so quickly after the release of the PS3 is due to exactly that. Despite the rumors though, Sony have remained quiet and made no official statement regarding the possible future PS4 console. Quite frankly, for as long as the PS3 is selling, it's unlikely they will see any need to replace it in the next few years.

From my own personal viewpoint, I would be disappointed if Sony release the PS4 anytime before 2013. So, is there going to be a PS4? I'm almost certain there will be, or at least something to succeed the PS3 (whether it's named the PS4 or not is irrelevant). Will it be anytime soon? I don't think so. An opinion that will surely alienate some users, and please others.
