What GPU will the new ps4 have? The ps3 had an RSX in it which was comparable to a 8800 geforce card. My guess is that the ps4 will have something like a modified nvidia 480 gtx. This is currently the most powerful card in the computer market with the exception of the ATI 5970. If it takes 2 years to develop the system it makes sense that they would go with one of these two cards. However, the 5970 is too expensive and goes for about $700. The 480 GTX goes for about $499 so perhaps it will be something cheaper in the range of a 470 gtx or 460 which are somewhat cheaper.
To give an idea of what kind of power a 480 GTX has I will provide an example. Crysis for pc can run at over 80 fps with a 2560 X 1600 resolution, 4X anti-aliasing and full tesselation with a 480 gtx. That is crazy resolution and you would need a damn projector to make use of it. Bump this down to 1080p, which will likely be standard in ps4, and you get an idea of how good the graphics could be on a new console. |

PS4 can easily have an NVIDIA 500 or 600 series card. NVIDIA and ATI come out with new card line-ups every single year. By 2011 it will be 600 series. If rumors are true of PS4 coming in 2013 then its more than likely that end 2011 is the cut off date for GPUs. Takes a year or two to be modified for console architecture. ATI is rumored to already have inked a deal with Microsoft. If true then the ATI 7000 series GPU that comes up will have a variation for the next Xbox. If that is coming in 2012/2013.
Although one thing to consider is Imagination Tech, and Intel. Imagination Tech's PowerVR 6 series GPU they are developing for 2011/2012 release. As well as Intel's Larrabee 2.0 GPU planned for 2011/2012 release. They are complete wild cards at the moment and noone knows where they are going to go and what they will be capable of doing or even if at all in the new console generation. If not in consoles they will hit the mobile market in some way. I personally can't wait to see what happens. |

i think its Intel design PlayStation 4 GPU. According to this, the PS4 will use the PowerVR Series 6 graphics card by Imagination Technologies. This graphics card is suppose to be 3 to 5 times better than a competitive level nVidia/ATI graphics card. The PowerVR card is also the same size and price as a nVidia card. Hopefully, gamers won’t have to wait long to find out if this rumor is true.
