In a recent interview, Hirai acknowledged the the convenience of digital downloads, but went on to say that Sony works in areas in which simply relying on digital content would not make sense for the Playstation 4. When he was questioned on some peoples thoughts that a 100% switch to digital media would happen anyway, Hirai stated that to think all software would be available as a digital download within the next 10 years is “taking it a little bit to the extreme”.

Sony have tried all digital content for the “PSP Go” but this move has been heavily blamed for a large proportion of the major losses that Sony have endured – another reason why sticking with physical media for the Playstation 4 seems so important – and let’s not forget, some retailers rely heavily upon the sale of used games – if Sony were to make a full switch over to digital with the Playstation 4, these sales would no longer exist, and it wouldn’t just be Sony who would suffer from the Playstation 4.

The ban prevents OzModChips, a popular Mod Supplier and Quantronics from importing, distributing or selling the device. Sony has until August 31 to makes its case to the court for a permanent ban. If it fails, the chips could go on sale on 1 September.

PS3Jailbreak is a dongle containing software that allows users to save games to the console’s hard drive. It is the first product to crack the security on the PS3 as many companies have tried and failed before. It was met with scepticism when videos of the device – posted by OzModChips – first appeared online in early August.

When the chip is installed the console will be able to use unsigned code and can use backup loaders or launchers to play saved games on the console without the disk being inside! Similar to USB loaders on the Nintendo Wii. We don’t know if Sony will take action but I highly doubt it.

Although the Playstation 4 Console has not yet been announced, games for the current Playstation 3 have often took 18-24 months in development before they were ready for release, so it makes sense that Sony are already looking to kickstart Playstation 4 plans well before the suggested 2012 release date.

Sony themselves are actually yet to comment on this news story, but Game Informer have the story in their news section, rather than rumors, which certainly adds fuel to the fire of all the Playstation 4 rumors.

Playstation 3 titles such as Fat Princess, PixelJunk Shooter, Groovin’ Blocks, Madden NFL, and Wakeboarding HD have all been lowered to between $4.99 and $7.99. Moving onto the PSP sale and we also see massive discounts on titles such as The Eye of Judgement Legends, Echoshift, Patchwork Heroes, Grand Theft Auto Chinatown Wars, and Lunar Silver Star Harmony – all of which are available at between $4.99 and $14.99.

With technology advancing so quickly in this day and age, it only seems natural to look ahead the the likes of the Playstation 4 and ‘ Xbox 720 ‘ , but can the cloud gaming service, OnLive, signal a time for change and force the likes of Microsoft and Sony to move away from the console industry? Critics have tried to nonsense these claims, stating that many users would not wish to move away from the Console generation just yet, and this is certainly an opinion that the PS4 Forums agrees with.

While the OnLive concept is both fascinating and ground breaking, it still appears to require so much more work before it’s ready to launch on a global scale and be a viable option for gamers around the world. The OnLive service requires a high internet connection speed which simply doesn’t exist in many European countries, and the monthly fee will surely drive away a good proportion of its target market (14-17 year olds). Whereas take the Playstation 4 for example, once the Sony PS4 launches this removes the need for excellent internet speeds or pricey monthly fees – you can simply buy the PS4 Console and the only other costs involved occur when you decide to purchase additional Playstation 4 Games.

That being said, OnLive is certainly a very intriguing design, and may prove to be a force in the Gaming industry for many years to come. As of right now though, we don’t think you should be forgetting about the possibility of a Playstation 4 just yet.

The E3 Conference also cleared up any left over confusion regarding the recent Playstation 4 Trailer, confirming what The PS4 Forums documented earlier this week, that the PS4 Video was created by Han West, a student film maker.

However, the truth is that the Playstation 4 Trailer originated from Han West – a half Chinese half American film maker. The video was created as a project for his class. We found this out when we received a copyright claim from Google, regarding his Playstation 4 trailer that we had uploaded.

This has rubbished online Playstation 4 rumor and speculation which was suggesting this was the first genuine sign of a Playstation 4 Console. One thing is for sure though, this will certainly accelerate PS4 speculation and will get alot more gamers thinking about a new next generation console from Sony in the not too distant future.

It would seem however, the video was initially created by Sony to demonstrate their 4.0 firmware update for the PS3, which would make 3D possible – and nothing to do with a Playstation 4 Console. This would make much more sense, as for Sony to confirm a PS4 console shortly before the release of their Playstation Move device just seemed odd.

The reality is, this PS4 trailer hoax has not brought us any nearer to knowing anything concrete about the future Playstation 4 – but will probably add fuel to the fire online, in terms of discussion regarding a new console from Sony.

Sony PR representative commented on the PS4 Trailer,

“Sony hardware PR representative Al de Leon broke it down for us in the simplest way possible: “I can confirm that this video is not from SCE [Sony Computer Entertainment].”
